I am looking for a hunting dog that will be a family pet 99% of the time and a hunting dog 1% of the time. We have a fantastic golden, but all he does is lay around and love everybody and I would like a dog that I can take to the fields as well. Her past has been of questionable care, we are at present working on her weight, she is 15 lbs under. She is timid but has in 8 days discovered she is in a loving home with no fear of loosing her food or harm. Previous owner had her a year but she was on the lower end of the pecking order because of situations. Anyway she is now the only dog in the home, she replaces my 12 yr old GSP who past in November of cancer, great bird dog and friend. She comes to us as I said somewhat timid but that seems to be changing daily, and I was advised that she is gun shy. Meaning that she pointed well but when the gun went bang she immediately ran behind the shooter/owner. Any thing I can do in time to correct that? She is a family member but I want to hunt her too. We found out that she is 4 years old but looks two, very small in stature. Respectfully, Dave.
